COUPLES THERAPY
It is possible that being in an intimate relationship is one of the most challenging endeavors we engage in. As we grow up, we go to school to learn how to read, write and engage in complicated intellectual endeavors. However, we are not taught about how to be in a relationship. So we go out there, just like our parents did, and start to discover the world of relationships and with that the world of moments of immense joy as well as of immense pain.
Our partners say and behave in ways that we never expect. It results in a distance, lack of trust, misunderstanding, hurt, blame and so on. We may even feel that we add to our own and our partner’s pains; we can be even quite aware of the vicious cycle but have no tools to get out of it.
Couples therapy is that relationship school that you never went to. Here together in a supportive environment we can discover a new way of you seeing and being with yourself and your partner, a new way of relating and communicating. You gain tools to stay connected to your experience while also being present for your partner. Just like a couple dancing Argentine tango: the beauty of their dance is created by them being connected with each other while being grounded in themselves.
Our approach is primarily informed by Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy. In addition, tango psychotherapy approach can be utilized, which combines traditional talk therapy and body-oriented therapy with music and steps of Argentine Tango.
